Do I need an exemption certificate if I can't wear a face mask?

The current guidelines do not require people to present evidence of exemption.

However, If you are unable to wear a face covering for respiratory or other reasons, and you feel that you would like to be prepared should you be approached as to why you are not wearing a mask, there are a number of websites from which you can print an exemption notice that politely advises others as to why you are not wearing a face covering.  Unfortunately, your GP is unable to provide this.

Shielding Patients

The NHS has written to around 1.3million people considered to be at highest risk from coronavirus (COVID-19) to inform them that they should stay at home and avoid all face-to-face contact for a period of at least 12 weeks. This is known as ‘shielding’.
